We had an exhilarating experience riding the toboggan at Mt. Pilatus! With an impressive length of 1,350 meters, the ride takes you on a thrilling journey to the bottom, while you soak in the breathtaking mountain scenery and pass by the charming cows grazing on the alpine meadows, their bells creating a delightful Swiss melody.
Capturing the excitement on camera is not allowed, but trust me when I say that this short thrill ride is totally worth it.
If you plan on riding the toboggan, be prepared to wait in line for approximately 30 minutes, as this popular attraction draws quite a crowd. Additionally, keep in mind that children 8 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
To continue your adventure, head to Fräkmüntegg where you can board the cableway that will take you to the majestic summit of Mt. Pilatus, known as Pilatus Kulm. Aptly named the Dragon Ride, this cableway offers a sensation of flying through the air, adding an extra touch of excitement to your journey.
You have the option to either book tickets for a full round trip to the peak of Pilatus or stop at Fräkmüntegg if you prefer. However, I strongly recommend going all the way to the summit, especially if the weather is clear, as the panoramic view from the top is simply breathtaking.

Embarking on a captivating journey, we immersed ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of Lucerne and Mount Pilatus. Our day began with an exhilarating ride on a series of panoramic gondolas and cableways, offering us awe-inspiring views of the surrounding landscapes.
Arriving at Pilatus Kulm, the highest point of Mount Pilatus, we indulged in a delicious lunch before venturing on a short hike. Surrounded by nature's tranquility, we marveled at the majestic peaks and lush greenery.
In pursuit of an adrenaline rush, we raced down the toboggan at Fräkmüntegg, feeling the wind in our hair and pure exhilaration in our hearts. To complete the adventure-filled day, we hopped on the gondola that effortlessly carried us back to Kriens.
If we had the chance to do it all over again, we would opt for the Silver Round Trip. This would allow us to experience the thrill of both the cogwheel railway and the cable car, providing a truly comprehensive exploration of the mountain beauty.
Hiking on Mt. Pilatus
Once you are on top of Mt. Pilatus, you have tons of options to fill your time. There are restaurants and hotels, so you can even spend the night here if you desire.
Clustered around the station are short, uphill climbs to several viewpoints. You could spend about an hour visiting these viewpoints if you want to see some spectacular views without expending a lot of energy.
We climbed up to Esel. From here, you can look down at Lucerne and out across the Alps. I’m a bit bummed that it was so cloudy at the top but sometimes that’s just the way it goes!

There are also some wonderful, short hikes you can do as well. Since you are already on a mountaintop, the elevation gain is minimal so these hikes are relatively easy.

Hiking to Tomlishorn on Mt. Pilatus
If you are seeking a picturesque and leisurely stroll amidst the jagged peaks, this is a highly recommended option.
This delightful hike predominantly consists of a well-maintained asphalt path, with a rough and rocky trail only towards the end. Although there are a couple of short climbs and some steps, the overall difficulty is minimal. Allocating approximately 40 minutes for this hike should suffice.
We thoroughly enjoyed this walk, despite one patch of clouds obscuring the stunning Alpine vistas we had anticipated. However, the charming sound of cow bells echoing from the valley below was an absolute highlight.

During our visit on a Saturday, we noticed that most establishments closed between 4 and 5 pm. Additionally, keep in mind that several shops are closed on Sundays, and on weekdays, they might only remain open until around 6:30 pm.
