Filmmaker, actor and all-round comedy genius Charlie Chaplin organised the construction of this group of villas in 1931. Its main purpose was to house the crew and actors working nearby on his latest films.
Nostalgic for his home town, Chaplin's aim was to create a miniature English estate in the heart of the city. His design vision focused on faux Tudor beams, leaded glass windows and the planting of cottage gardens. After Chaplin's departure in the 1940s, the estate fell into disrepair.
